Here are answers to some the questions I get asked most often, but feel free to reach out anytime.
Sometimes, but not always. If you already know exactly what you want to book, such as a specific cruise, resort, or vacation package, I typically do not charge a planning fee. In those cases, my services are generally compensated by the travel supplier.
For vacations that require more research, customized planning, itinerary design, or multiple destination options, I charge a professional planning fee based on the complexity of the trip. These fees typically range from $50 to $100 and are non-refundable, reflecting the time, expertise, and personalized research that go into creating your vacation.
For destination weddings, I charge a flat $250 planning fee due to the additional coordination, guest management, and support involved.
In addition, all TRU Vacations clients receive access to my travel app, Tern for Travelers, which provides convenient access to your itinerary, travel documents, reservation details, and important trip information right from your phone. You’ll also receive personalized support before, during, and after your trip, giving you peace of mind every step of the way.
As a Travel Advisor, I have access to special group pricing and exclusive amenities that aren’t available when booking directly. In many cases my pricing is better than what the cruise line offers. And at worst, it’s the same. But beyond price, you get personalized recommendations, expert guidance, and someone in your corner if anything goes wrong. Booking directly gives you a transaction. Working with me gives you an experience.
Maybe. Sometimes I can do better, sometimes not, but price isn’t the full picture. A bargain fare to Europe in basic economy or a hotel on the outskirts of the city to save a few dollars can significantly impact your experience. If price is your primary deciding factor, a Travel Advisor may not be the right fit. If you value guidance, expertise, and someone looking out for your best interests, that’s exactly why I’m here.
It really depends on what you’re booking. Cruises and guided tours often open up to two years in advance, and that’s typically when you’ll find the best pricing and cabin selection. Airfare generally isn’t available until about 11 months out. That said, I’ve helped clients plan trips on short notice too. Whatever your timeline, reach out and we’ll make it work.
I work with a wide range of suppliers and cruise lines. Over time, I’ve narrowed my preferred partners to those I trust to deliver an exceptional experience, because your trip reflects on me too. I’m always open to exploring new suppliers, but I take client experience seriously and won’t recommend something I’m not confident in.
Absolutely. And I say that from personal experience. Long before I became a Travel Advisor, I always purchased travel insurance, and I’ve had to use it more than once. Travel is a significant investment and life is unpredictable. I strongly recommend protecting that investment, and I’m happy to walk you through your options.
Every client receives a contact number for in-destination support. This number is often to one of my preferred suppliers through which I’ve booked your vacation. This is especially important when you’re traveling internationally and in a different time zone than me. While I’m always happy to help, I want you to have immediate access for emergency support no matter what time of day or night.
I like to think of myself as your Travel Advisor for all of life’s journeys. Yes, I specialize in cruises, honeymoons, destination weddings, luxury escapes, and family travel, but I’m here for every trip, every milestone, and every adventure in between. Based in Houston and ASTA-verified, I bring real expertise to wherever life takes you next.
Yes! Airfare can be included as part of any vacation package I put together for you; however, we don’t book standalone flights. If you’re looking for airfare only, I’d recommend booking directly with the airline or through a flight-only booking service.
